Breast Revision
Fort Lauderdale & Delray Beach

Breast augmentation surgery is very popular with women in the United States and around the world. Millions of women each year have implants surgically placed within their breasts and love their results. However, sometimes, a breast implant revision surgery is needed after the initial surgery to correct medical or cosmetic issues with the implant. At Inspire Aesthetics, we will perform your breast revision in Fort Lauderdale or Delray Beach, FL, even if we did not perform the original surgery.

About Breast Revision Surgery

Breast revision is a surgical procedure aimed at addressing issues that may arise after previous breast augmentation or reconstruction surgeries. It may be performed to correct problems like implant displacement, rupture, or dissatisfaction with size or shape. Additionally, breast revision in Fort Lauderdale and Delray Beach can resolve issues related to scarring, sagging, or changes in breast tissue over time. This specialized procedure is tailored to each patient’s unique needs and goals.

Remember that your breast implants need to be exchanged or removed in 10 to 15 years after your first augmentation surgery. Revision surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure with surgical techniques, much like the first surgery. We also offer our revision services to women who just no longer wish to have their implants. We want to hear your concerns about your breast appearance in a private consultation at Inspire Aesthetics.

Best Candidates

The best candidates for breast revision surgery are individuals who have previously undergone breast augmentation or reconstruction and are experiencing complications or dissatisfaction with their results. Ideal candidates are generally in good overall health, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations. Our plastic surgeons will provide a thorough consultation in our office, review your medical history, perform an examination, and possibly order an MRI imaging of the breast to determine if an implant has ruptured.

Possible Reasons for Breast Revision

Implant Ruptures

Implant ruptures are rare and require revision surgery. A ruptured saline implant may appear to be deflated and flattened, but the saline is safely absorbed by the body. When a silicone implant ruptures, the gel doesn’t move. There is an obvious difference in firmness and the shape of the breast. In most cases, the silicone is still contained within the implant and does not harm the body. However, a breast revision is necessary to remove the ruptured implant.

Double Bubble

This deformity creates an unnatural indentation in the breast, and it looks like the implant has fallen out of position. Visually, the breasts will appear doubled underneath the crease. This occurs if the implants were not properly positioned during surgery. It can also happen if there is too much scar tissue around the implant. Breast revision in Delray Beach or Fort Lauderdale is the only way to amend this situation. The surgeon may also use a surgical mesh to reinforce the implant and keep it from moving.

Capsular Contracture

Scarring can cause a hardening of the breast, which occurs more often in saline implants. There is always a risk of scar tissue forming around the breast implant once it has settled into the chest, which shifts the implant out of place and hardens the breast. Signs include firmness, pain, distortion, and elevated breasts, often resulting from the tightening of scar tissue. In this case, a surgeon would have to remove the scar tissue with a procedure called a capsulectomy.

Breast Rippling

Breast rippling is a visible wrinkling beneath or on the side of the breast. This can often be seen under clothes. Rippling can happen with any augmentation patient and is most common with women who are thin and have very little muscle under the breast. Saline implants cause more than silicone implants. While this complication is not a health risk, it does lead to unattractive, wrinkly breasts. In this case, a breast revision is the only solution.

Your Breast Revision Consultation

During your consultation, your surgeon will listen to your concerns and cosmetic goals before making recommendations for a specific treatment plan. Since each implant revision surgery is unique, the surgical technique and length of surgery and recovery will vary. You should expect a longer recovery time for multiple or extensive revision surgeries that involve removing scar tissue or removing loose skin. A revision that replaces a breast implant usually allows for the shortest recovery period.
