Loss Transformation

After significant weight loss, individuals often find themselves with excess skin, weakened abdominal muscles, and stubborn pockets of fat that can be resistant to diet and exercise. A tummy tuck addresses these issues, helping patients achieve a more contoured appearance. For individuals who have worked hard to shed excess pounds, a tummy tuck can be the final step in their transformation, eliminating loose skin and providing a sculpted silhouette.

About Tummy Tuck Surgery

A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that gives you a tighter and smoother abdomen. If you are struggling to get rid of excess belly fat despite a healthy diet and regular exercise, a tummy tuck may help you achieve the body you desire.

A tummy tuck can also tighten loose skin and add contour to the midsection of the body. This surgery will slim a tummy with stubborn fat deposits and redundant skin that won’t bounce back after weight loss.

Tummy Tuck: What To Expect

During a tummy tuck in Delray Beach or Fort Lauderdale, our surgeons make a horizontal incision, typically between the belly button and pubic area, to remove excess fat and tissue from the abdomen. The fascia, tissue beneath the skin, will be tightened. Should the belly button require moving, it will be brought out through a small incision and repositioned. Excess skin will also be removed, and the incision along the pubic area will be stitched.

The result of this procedure is a minor scar that falls along the bikini line for easy coverage. After the procedure, we may attach drainage tubes to prevent fluid accumulation in the incisions. Patients can expect the procedure to take approximately 3 hours, depending on their aesthetic goals. We can perform outpatient scar revision surgeries in our AAAASF-approved surgical facility at Inspire Aesthetics.

Best Candidates

The best candidates for tummy tuck surgery are those in good health and who are at or near their desired weight. Tummy tuck surgery should not be used as a form of weight loss but as a means to tone the midsection after having already met your weight loss goals. Good candidates for tummy tucks are men or women who experience excessive skin around the belly button, a weakened abdominal wall, and/or sagging or loosened skin on the abdomen.

Why Our Patients Love Us

Dr Crane and the staff of Inspire Aesthetics are awesome. The care and support is way beyond what I had even hoped for. Everything was explained so carefully and my results are incredibly impressive. My husband keeps commenting on how good I look . I had a mastectomy years ago and I wanted to feel good about my body- and escape the mid section "buldge" . Now, 3 months later my tummy tuck has worked wonders . Thanks Inspire ... and my pants thank you too!

Types of Tummy Tuck Surgery

An abdominoplasty can be performed using various techniques and incision styles. You may need a full abdominoplasty for optimal results. However, if you only have trouble in your lower stomach or you have a “pooch,” a mini or modified tummy tuck may be enough. During your consultation for a tummy tuck in Fort Lauderdale or Delray Beach, our plastic surgeons will discuss your body concerns and what you hope to achieve from tummy tuck surgery before creating your best treatment plan.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck, also known as a partial abdominoplasty, is selected if the amount of loose skin is minimal and the excess fat deposits are below the navel. During this technique, only a short horizontal incision is necessary for a partial tuck. This procedure is ideal for individuals with localized fat and skin in the lower abdominal area.

Circumferential Tummy Tuck

If you have lost significant weight and fat (usually after gastric bypass surgery), you may have loose, overhanging skin all around the body. In order to create a nice contour, our plastic surgeons can extend the scar around the waistline to lift the outer thigh and buttocks for a smoother look with the muscles tightened and create a new belly button.

Your Tummy Tuck Recovery Process

Following abdominoplasty, some swelling and bruising will occur around the abdomen and belly button. For the first few days following the procedure, tubes may be used to drain the incision site of any blood and fluid. Some patients may be issued an antibiotic to help prevent infection. Patients will experience some abdominal pain, which is normal, and the swelling can take 6 weeks or more to subside.

It is very important that patients are careful moving around following the first few months after a tummy tuck in Delray Beach or Fort Lauderdale, and they will need to schedule follow-up appointments at our office periodically for progress checks. Typically, some improvement in abdominal contour is visible immediately after the procedure. However, it may take several months for post-surgery swelling to subside fully, allowing patients to appreciate the final, more defined appearance of their abdomen.

Tummy Tuck FAQs

How is a tummy tuck different from liposuction?

Liposuction primarily targets excess fat around the abdomen, while a tummy tuck addresses excess fat, loose skin, and abdominal muscle laxity. Liposuction is suitable for those with good skin elasticity but minimal muscle separation, while a tummy tuck is more comprehensive.

Will I have visible scars after a tummy tuck?

Yes, you will have scars, but their visibility depends on the type of tummy tuck and your body’s natural healing process. Our surgeons make incisions strategically, often hidden below the bikini line. Over time, the scars tend to fade, and there are scar management techniques to help minimize their appearance.

Is a tummy tuck a weight loss procedure?

No, a tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure. It is intended for body contouring and is most effective for individuals near their ideal weight. It’s advisable to reach your target weight before undergoing the surgery.

Can I get pregnant after a tummy tuck?

Yes, you can get pregnant after a tummy tuck. However, it’s recommended to have the procedure when you have finished having children, as future pregnancies may affect the results. Please discuss your family planning goals with your surgeon.

Are the results of a tummy tuck permanent?

The results of a tummy tuck can be long-lasting, provided you maintain a healthy lifestyle and avoid significant weight fluctuations. While the aging process continues, the improvements made through the surgery should remain visible. However, future pregnancies or dramatic weight loss or weight gain can undo the results of the procedure.
