About Chemical Peels
We offer a variety of medical-grade chemical peels at Inspire Cosmetic Surgery & Med Spa. A chemical peel is used as an effective skin rejuvenation treatment with a topical chemical solution to break down the top layer of your facial skin so that it peels away to a fresh layer. Using chemical peels with our patients, our board-certified plastic surgeons can create a treatment plan based only on your needs like acne scars, wrinkles, discoloration, rough/flaky texture, pigmentation issues, and other irregularities. We provide chemical peels mainly on the facial skin. However, we can also safely and effectively treat the neck, chest, and back of the hands as well. From light to deep, our chemical peels at Inspire will rejuvenate your skin to produce a younger, softer layer of skin you will love to see and touch.
Types of Chemical Peels
There are several types of chemical peels offered by our office. The strength used will be determined based on the skin condition of the patient, as well as the aesthetic goals and desired downtime. Our office offers the following peels:
- Superficial/Light Peel
This is the mildest chemical peel. It is performed in a matter of minutes with only about 3 – 5 days downtime of peeling. During this peel, only the top layer of skin is removed, which causes the skin to immediately look smoother, more even toned, and brighter. These peels are usually comprised of alpha hydroxyl or beta hydroxyl acid, along with salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and lactic acid. Usually, multiple treatments are recommended to get the best possible results.
- Medium Depth Peel
This peel goes deeper than a light peel and therefore, provides more dramatic results. This particular peel is usually derived from Trichloroacetic acid (known as TCA); it is a type of acid that penetrates deeper into the skin. A medium depth peel is used to treat hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and sun damage. Since the peel goes deeper, a patient can expect a longer recovery period and should plan ahead since the face can be swollen, itchy and red for about 10 days following the treatment.
- Deep Peel
This is the strongest chemical peel is the deep peel and is used for deep scarring, excessive wrinkles, and more serious skin irregularities. While these peels promise the most dramatic results, a patient can be quite shocked by his or her appearance immediately following the procedure. High-strength TCA or carbolic acid, or phenol, is used to penetrate the deeper layers of skin. Since this peel is more invasive, some form of anesthesia may be used. Following the peel, the skin will be intensely red comparable to a severe sunburn. The entire face will be swollen and then scab. Intense peeling will occur and the downtime could last 3 – 4 weeks, or longer.
"What an amazing team!! Dr. Goodwin, Kathy and Angela made a very stressful life event involving my double mastectomy and reconstruction turn from a nightmare into a dream. Very supportive with great bedside manner. This truly talented surgeon has your best interests in mind always."- H.V. / Yelp / Feb 05, 2019
"Dr Schnitt is an absolute perfectionist and we had a wonderful experience with him. I would highly recommend him for your surgical needs. He's very hands on with the care of his patients and we really appreciated that. Check out his YouTube channel!"- C.S. / Yelp / Dec 01, 2019
"I cannot wait to have them repierced - It was a pleasure to have Dr. Megan Jack take care of my horribly thinning earlobes. I needed to completely have her rebuild my earlobes because recently a stud earring with the back fell through my original piercing. The other piercings had deteriorated so both earlobes were done. Dr Jack is very professional but extremely caring. Now that the lobes are fixed I can not wait to have them re pierced. Dr.Jack will be able to do that in about 5 weeks. My new earlobes look amazing.ESL"- E. / RealSelf / Nov 22, 2019
"Dr Drew and the Team Are Exceptional - After my consultation with Dr Drew I knew he was going to be the surgeon to do my breast augmentation. The place is beautiful and so clean. All the girls that work there are so pretty and sweet and make you feel right at home . My surgery went so well and I am 10000% satisfied with my results . I wanted to go big around 600cc and that is excactly what the doctor gave me. 605cc hp under the muscle . Recovery was quick , I was off pain meds after 2 days. I am currently 10days post op, feeling great and the girls are amazing I’m so in love."- M. / RealSelf / Nov 18, 2019
"Let me start off by saying that Inspire is amazing! I had went to two other consultations for my Breast augmentation before Dr.Drew. I knew as soon as he was done going over all the information i would choose him. He was very thorough and listened to all my concerns and answered every question. He made me feel extremely comfortable. If i ever needed anything additional answered, Kamy the best patient care coordinator was one text away and checked in with me before surgery and right after! The procedure, to me was a pretty easy recovery. Pain was minimal. I was able to get EXPEREL, they will recommend and I will tell you that my pain on a scale from 1-10 was probably a 4 at most. 10/10 would recommend!! All in all this place is awesome, looks beautiful and their team is best! I am on week 5 post op and my boobies look and feel amazing! SOOO SOOO HAPPY with the results."- A.B. / Yelp / Nov 05, 2019
What to Expect
Regardless of the peel used, the overall procedure is similar. The skin will be cleansed thoroughly and the chemical solution will be applied to the face. This process takes just a few minutes and a handheld fan is used to help decrease discomfort. During a light peel, the skin will tingle during treatment. A medium peel will produce a bit more discomfort, and a deep peel will require a numbing agent or anesthesia. The differences between the peels are the type of solution used, the number of steps taken during the actual procedure, as well as the amount of solution that is applied. A soothing ointment will be applied to the skin after the treatment. In the days that follow, the skin will begin to naturally flake and peel away. Patients should avoid picking at the skin or trying to speed up the peeling process in any way because this can result in scarring. Patients should avoid sun exposure and keep their skin protected at all times.
